Approach
The State of Food and Agriculture 2021 is a flagship publication from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN that devised national agrifood system resilience indicators to measure countries' food production, availability, and access. The report found that, in addition to the roughly 3 billion people currently unable to afford a healthy diet, 1 billion more would join them if a shock (such as a global pandemic) were to reduce their incomes by one-third.
This project adapts the findings of the SOFA 2021 and presents an insightful visual comparison between countries’ food systems and their at-risk population for food insecurity following a shock. Like its source material, this visualization aims to support policymakers and relevant stakeholders to better improve food supply chain resilience, support livelihoods in the agrifood system and, in the face of disruption, ensure sustainable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to all.
